What is the New Generation Arts Festival?

The New Generation Arts (NGA) Festival is a two-week programme of innovative art shows to be held mid-June 2007 in Birmingham. The aim of the Festival is to provide graduates and artists from Birmingham arts institutions a platform to showcase their work at the highest level.

Has there been a new Generation Arts Festival before?

What will the 2007 Festival involve?

The Festival has three main strands:

  • Graduate shows in Fine Art, Drama, Music, Fashion, Creative Writing, Photography, Multimedia Design, Film, Animation, Jewellery and Performance
  • Showcases and exhibitions from new artists, graduating, living or working in Birmingham in all arts based disciplines, curated and co-ordinated by the New Generation Arts Director
  • 6 major exhibits

How you can get involved

We're looking for Artists to participate in the Festival programme, which will present their work and demonstrate the success of Birmingham based talent.

You will have graduated from any Birmingham-based Arts institution or live or work in Birmingham and have graduated in the last five years. You will be prepared to donate your time, work and effort by delivering or participating in the delivery of Festival programme events

 What's in it for you?

This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your outstanding work to the general public and to contribute to the creative diversity of the region. We aim to put Birmingham graduates on the cultural map of Europe!

The Festival will be supported by high quality production values and a high profile PR campaign. The campaign will include celebrity launch events, coverage by the national media and public recognition of your contribution.  Payments for work will be made.

Who selects the graduates who take part?

The NGA Festival is an excellent platform for new and emerging artists. We are expecting a massive response from Birmingham trained arts graduates and unfortunately we are unlikely to be able to offer exhibition and showcasing opportunities to all who apply.

A two-stage process will take place. Applications will be screened by an expert panel of judges who will undertake the selection of artists. Short listed applicants will then be contacted by NGA’s Festival Arts Director to review content and discuss options – you will be asked to present a detailed plan for your contribution to the Festival.

Expressions of interest for inclusion in the Festival should be sent for consideration using the registration link below.

2006 was the first New Generation Arts Festival.  Featuring some 80 Alumni graduating over the past 5 years and some 600 new artists the festival showcased the talent of Birmingham in 35 exhibitions located around 30 venues based in Birmingham.  Promoted via the Big Screen, Bill Boards, Screen fx showcases, Birmingham Post feature supplement, marketing material and £250k of Public Relations coverage the festival was seen in excess of 1.4 million times by members of the public.

As an inaugural year, many new opportunities materialised which will be incorporated into the 2007 festival.
